Back to School

Well it's taken around 2 years, but I'm back in school. I couldn't say for sure if it's really just the pressure of bills in my life or if it really is the festering drive inside that makes me want to AT LEAST finish up my IT Multimedia degree. Whatever the case is, I'm back at ITT Tech and it all feels really, really good.

The great thing I'm seeing about college is the whole networking concept in full swing. And now that I've got a pile of ambition up my sleeve, I'm looking forward to what this experience might have to hold. I'll start with a Guitar Hero/Rock Band contest. The school has already done plenty of FPS competitions, but who needs MORE violence around. Wars... abuse... adolescence... MOVIES. I think we can all use a little rockin' out time.

I'll see tomorrow if the school feels the same way.

Classes are cool. Students seem a little younger than me this time through, but we're all adults at this point... for the most part. The teachers are... teachers. It IS nice to see the same familiar faces around, though. Thank god the teachers I actually had fun with 3 years ago are still there. The usual ITT reward system of random give-away contests you can be entered into by just showing up to class are still in full swing. This first round they're giving away 20 of their old computers.

Along with school, I'm working on funding a tattooing apprenticeship I've come across. All I need is $3,000 up front and $500 a month for five months after that. And now after I fix my car (-$526.25) pay for my spot in the local art fair (-$125) purchase a few dozen prints of my work to sell (-$150) our big green fist is left with... negative... dollars. About 50 of them. Craaaaap. This whole starving artist thing better not be what Loony Tunes put it out to be. Anyone know where I can find a pile of money? How about a bank that will actually lend some cash? An investor? SPONSOR?

All in all, I know that the skills I'm picking up along the way are going to benefit my career in the end, but how much they'll be used has yet to be determined. It's like sitting in a class like... history. Every draining hour of history class has been a combination of forced memorization and fighting off the itching "WHY DO I NEED TO LEARN THIS?!" Unless I decide to major in history or at some point find myself on some random trivia game show, why should I bother? Okay, okay, so I'll be learning valuable 'life lessons' and I'll know what the people who run this world want me to believe is HOW this and that came to be, but in the end will it truly make a difference in my CAREER??? I DO know that I'm using Photoshop every single day. 3D modeling and animation is fascinating, fun, AND will most likely turn useful in the future. But what is it that I really want to do? I guess I'll have to keep looking for that one like the majority of us who give a damn.

Take care out there
